King of Nations Round 1 - UAE - Qualifying

The 2016 Federal Tyres King of Nations Drift Championship has officially begun in UAE. With Fujairah playing host for drivers venturing from as far as the UK and Australia to compete in the first round of the World drift series.

After the success of King of Asia in 2015, and also joining King of Europe in 2015 - Keiichi Tsuchiya is now backing King of Nations where he is judging alongside 2015 King of Europe judge Vernon Zwaneveld and Malaysian judge, Zai Bullzai Hamdan. Tsuchiya lets the drivers know exactly what is expected from them, once again encouraging the high-speed driving that the Drift King is famed for in Japan.

With a wide, open track at their disposal it was a clean slate for the judges to decide the clipping points and the exact lines they would like to see the drivers aim for throughout the weekend. Having a blank canvas undoubtedly offers the opportunity to set the highest speed and most challenging layouts possible.

The fans turned out in their numbers to witness their local drivers go against some of the most highly acclaimed drivers in the World.

Ahmad Daham displayed two extremely impressive qualifying runs, taking pole position with 92.21 points. French driver Nicolas Delorme would take second place, with Ahmed Al Ameri taking third.

Luke Fink went into the weekend hoping to drive with his typically aggressive style, but sadly was stopped in his tracks when he experienced issues with this car which meant that he was forced to retire, leaving him unable to qualify.

Japanese driver Drift Zamurai grabbed 16th place in qualifying, meaning that he will go through to tomorrows Top 32 battles where he’ll undoubtedly be hoping to show off his Japanese driving style.

With the Top 32 battles set to take place tomorrow afternoon, it’s undoubtedly going to make for some fierce competition as the drivers go head-to-head to fight to get a jump-start in the Championship rankings, and take the silverware back for their home Nation!
